Germany is Europe's largest used-car market — over 1.5 million listings on mobile.de alone, many times the size of the Belgian offering. The difference shows most where Belgian buyers look hardest: well-specced premium cars and EVs. A German listing of the same model year typically carries more equipment, a documented service history, and a lower asking price than its Belgian counterpart, simply because supply is deeper and competition between sellers is fiercer.

Belgium also has geography on its side: the German border is a short drive away, so the transport leg is one of the shortest in Europe — a car picked up in the Rhineland or Ruhr can reach Flanders, Wallonia or Brussels in a matter of hours. What stands between you and the saving is Belgian registration paperwork and the risk of buying a car you've only seen in photos — both of which we handle.

2 · Secure the deal

3 · Deliver it insured

Registering the car in Belgium

• Registration runs through the DIV (Direction pour l'Immatriculation des Véhicules / Dienst voor Inschrijving van Voertuigen), which issues the Belgian plate and registration certificate.
• A roadworthiness inspection first. An imported used car normally needs a contrôle technique / autokeuring at an approved centre before it can be registered.
• Registration tax (BIV) varies by region. The taxe de mise en circulation / belasting op inverkeerstelling differs between Flanders, Wallonia and Brussels and depends on CO2, age and fuel — budget it before you buy. We help you estimate it up front.
• Annual road tax (taxe de circulation) applies once the car is registered, again on a regional basis.
• No Belgian VAT on used EU cars. A used car bought in another EU country triggers no Belgian VAT. A new means of transport (under 6 months old or under 6,000 km) is different: 21% Belgian VAT applies.
• Bilingual paperwork. Documents and procedures run in French or Dutch depending on your region — we prepare the German paperwork so it slots straight into either.
